In general – struggles for access to public natural resources in Israel, which are closed to the public, have been causing friction for many years, especially when it comes to a beautiful and special resource like the Hasi Stream. The film The Waterline follows a group of activists fighting for the public’s right to access the stream, which runs through Kibbutz Nir David. Their demand is one: to open the gates of the kibbutz so that everyone can enjoy the waters of the stream that flows through it. On the other side of the gate – the members of the kibbutz who fear change and damage to the fabric of their lives
What do you do when the law clashes with reality and the police stand helpless and cannot force either side to retreat? The film’s director accompanies the protest members and documents up close a physically and legally charged clash that leads to absurd situations and raises questions about community, equality, law and justice that go far beyond the borders of the valley.
