8th Day, the popular Jewish rock band known for hits like “Ya’alili”, brings their signature energy and wit to Purim with this song. The title itself is a play on words—both a reference to Haman’s fate (hanged on the very gallows he prepared for Mordechai) and a humorous nod to the many enemies of the Jewish people who have met similar ends.

With lively music, clever lyrics, and a beat that gets people dancing, this song isn’t just about Purim—it’s a tribute to Jewish survival and faith in the face of adversity.

From Haman to Hitler and Sinwar—A History of Jewish Resilience

The story of Purim, as told in the Book of Esther, is one of many times throughout history that a powerful figure has plotted against the Jewish people, only to see their plans backfire.

Here are just a few examples of nations and leaders who have tried (and failed) to wipe out the Jewish people:

1. Ancient Persia – Haman (circa 5th century BCE)

Haman, the advisor to King Achashverosh, convinced the king to issue a decree to annihilate all Jews. Through divine intervention and the bravery of Esther and Mordechai, Haman’s plan collapsed, and he was executed instead.

2. The Roman Empire (70 CE & 135)

The Romans destroyed the Second Temple and brutally suppressed the Jewish revolts, killing and exiling Jews from their homeland. Yet, the Jewish people persisted, keeping their traditions alive in exile.

3. The Spanish Inquisition (1492)

King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella expelled the Jews from Spain, forcing them to flee or convert under torture. But Jewish communities flourished elsewhere, from the Ottoman Empire to North Africa.

4. The Holocaust (1933–1945)

Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime attempted to exterminate European Jewry, murdering six million. But despite the horrors of the Holocaust, the Jewish people rebuilt, creating thriving communities worldwide and establishing the State of Israel in 1948.

5. Hamas and the Current War (2023–2024)

In the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, the terrorist organization has launched brutal attacks against Israeli civilians, seeking to destroy the Jewish state. But just as in the days of Purim, the Jewish people continue to stand strong, fighting for survival and security against those who seek their destruction.

The Message of Purim: Am Yisrael Chai!

The lesson of Purim—and of Jewish history—is clear: no matter how many enemies rise against us, the Jewish people endure. Just as Haman was defeated, so too have others who sought to destroy the Jewish nation.

“Haman, How’s It Hangin’?” isn’t just a fun Purim song; it’s a reminder that Jewish joy and survival are eternal. So this Purim, crank up the music, dance, and celebrate—because history has proven time and again that the Jewish people aren’t going anywhere.
