Har Hamenuchot is the main Jewish cemetery in Jerusalem, and over a quarter of a million people are buried there. Due to a shortage of space, huge burial tunnels are currently being dug deep into the mountain’s interior, which are expected to contain over 23,000 new graves, strictly kosher. Against the backdrop of the construction process of this ambitious and spectacular project, we will embark on a cinematic journey – above and below ground – behind the scenes of the Jewish burial world. The film looks at the people, the work, and the customs that make up the great burial enterprise in Jerusalem and outlines the web of our relationship with death: between sacred craft and menial labor, between technology and halakha, between resurrection and war.
