When the Jews of Budapest were set to be deported in 1944, Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat stationed in Hungary during WWII, led an operation to save them. He paid a heavy price for his bravery: Wallenberg was detained 75 years ago today on January 17, 1945. He was not seen from again. His efforts saved 140,000 Jews from certain death.
