One of the most critical conversations in all of Jewish history takes places in the Megillah – between Mordechai and Esther – of what it means to be a Jew and what we can all do.
Haman has already decreed to kill all the Jews, and now Mordechai says to Esther she should reveal who she is to the king. She says she can’t because she hadn’t been called to the king. He responds that if you don’t, salvation will come to the Jewish people from another source. He says G-d will look after the people, even though it doesn’t seem that way – Jewish destiny is bigger than any one person. But you should do it for you, otherwise you will perish.
We are here not for ourselves, but for something much bigger than ourselves. Will we have any role to play, will we be protagonists?
Like then, so too now – this is our Esther and Mordechai moment. Every woman and man can vote in these critical World Zionist Congress elections for the future of the Zionist movement and the voice of Jews around the world in Israel. Post October 7th, this has never been more important. To ensure that the values of Judaism and Zionism, and the belief in a Jewish destiny deeply imbued in the values of Torah and takes full responsibility to share the burden of Jewish history on the front lines in Israel and around the world, are represented and shape the future of Jewish destiny.
