Yeshiva university alumnus Ryan Turell is hoping to become the first Orthodox Jewish player in NBA history. After being drafted no. 27 in the NBA’s G League in October, he made his professional debut Monday night for the Detroit Pistons. It was a historic Jewish moment, and Turrell came onto the floor late in the game to loud applause and even louder cheers when he touched the ball during his first possession.
