A surprising number of American Buddhists are Jewish, enough to earn the nickname JewBus. For many, Buddhism offered the stillness and spiritual immediacy they felt missing in synagogue life.

Yet their search for meaning often revealed spiritual depths and mindfulness within Judaism they hadn’t seen before. What began as a journey East became a rediscovery of their own tradition.
