Hasidic Headgear: from $4,000 wigs to the shpitzel

Hasidic women wear various styles of headcovering that symbolizes status, religiosity, fashion, trendiness and family class. There are styles like: the wig, the band, the snood, the wig and hat, the frisette, the shpitzel, or arupgebinden. Some of these headcoverings signal such different orientations towards tradition and fashion, that families might not arrange matches on account of very different headcoverings. In this video, come for an anthropological dive into the subtle complexities of the Hasidic women’s headgear.
